Just as good? Maybe better.,

I thought long and hard before deciding to buy this mixer.I should have saved myself the worry. It's great, works as well as the higher priced Kitchen Aids my sisters own, and in every way feels like a quality product. It never shimmies or walks, though I don't overtax it. You probably would get a sturdier more powerful mixer if you were willing to pay- say $500.If you want to get away for under three hundred- buy this.

Works just as well as my old kitchen aid,

My old kitchen aid stopped working after more than 15 years of use so I was in the market for a replacement. I decided to buy this mixer mainly because of the low price and the consumer report rating. I never expected it to equal the performance of my old kitchen aid but it does. One thing that's better with the Hamilton Beach is it's so much quieter. Another plus for me, and this may not be true for everyone, is the bowl of my old KA and its attachments actually fit the HB so now I have an extra set I can use. I've had the mixer for a year and a half now and so far so good. I'm not expecting it to last 15 years but even if it lasts just a third of that, you still can't beat the price (for that matter, I don't think the new Kitchen Aids will last as long as the old ones either). Would definitely recommend this mixer, as long as you don't make heavy, stiff doughs often.

Takes some getting used to.,

I've always used a hand mixer, but have trouble with my arms and shoulders, so I asked my husband for this for christmas. It was recommended by Consumer Reports and was a lot less expensive than the Kitchenaid. It does take some getting used to, as the beater doesn't quite touch the bottom of the bowl, so you have to scrape the bottom as well as the sides. Adding ingredients is very different from using a hand mixer, as the blade is in the way, even when you raise it up, and you can't whip the batter off of the blade as you can a hand mixer.
That said, it's pretty easy to wipe the batter off the blade with a scraper, and it is wonderful not to have to hold the thing while you're mixing. The shape of the blade seems to mix things fairly quickly, so you're not beating the batter as long. I do wish it came with an extra bowl.
